001:A Fresh Start
The Flower Fields, ©amyluxox
Hello and welcome, fashion lovers and friends.
This is my fresh start and the very first edition of my monthly newsletter, where I’ll be diving into all things style and fashion. I say style AND fashion because while they’re related, they’re not synonymous.
Fashion is about clothes and the industry that designs, markets, and sells them.
Style is how you wear those clothes.
You can buy fashion. You can’t buy style.
But here’s the magic: I believe style can be learned, crafted, and refined. And when you find your own, it’s infinitely more valuable than any off-the-rack look ever could be.
My intention with this newsletter is to share authentic style notes and inspiring fashion stories that help you align with your personal vision. It’s a work in progress—like most worthwhile things. I’m a Gemini (endless ideas and constant iterations), a perfectionist (hello, overthinking and re-dos), and technically challenged (I’m a Gen X’er who still misses print magazines and prefers talk over text). So yes, there will be some kinks, but here I am—starting anyway.
With a touch of fashion magic and a whole lot of heart, I hope this newsletter finds the people it’s meant to help and inspire.
Because what I truly love is curating inspiration through shopping, styling, and storytelling. Enjoy!

To Be Is The Goal
Lulala, April 2025
I love beautiful clothes, and chances are, if you’re reading this, you do too—because, well… fashion! Clothing is one of the greatest joys of my life, and my mission is to help others see just how much joy it can bring into theirs.
What else has such instantaneous power to make you feel fabulous—or not? Beautiful—or not? Strong—or not? What else allows you to express yourself so effectively without words? What else is as accessible to everyone, regardless of background, budget, or body type?
I’m not talking about fashion in the Emily in Paris or Sex and the City sense—though, wow, incredible? Absolutely. Attainable? Not really. I’m talking about your true style. The way you align yourself with your vision for an event, a date, a job interview—or even just your day, your year, your life. Dressing intentionally works. What you wear matters—not so much to others, but to you.
There’s a false narrative perpetuated by most media: that only some people are worthy of the “good stuff” and that only some people deserve to look great when they wear it. Usually, this messaging comes paired with the idea that you need to keep spending to achieve that worthiness. I call bullshit. The truth? Anyone can wear anything, look however they choose, and feel however they want. Your style is yours alone—no one else gets to dictate it.
So why do we invest so much time in beauty, fitness, and lifestyle but neglect the effort it takes to craft looks that truly work for us? I’ve worked with so many clients who spend time and money on salon appointments and buy loads of clothes—yet don’t even know what’s in their closets or how to put their pieces together. Like anything done well, great style requires thought and energy. If you want your clothes to create a feeling within yourself (or even convey an impression to others), you have to be intentional about it.
If dressing purely for function ticks your boxes, keep doing what works for you. But if you’re longing for something more, remember this: coveting is not the goal—becoming is. We’re drawn to certain looks because, on some level, we believe that if we wear them, we’ll feel a certain way. Once you recognize what that feeling is, it becomes much easier to choose the right garments and put together outfits that serve you.
Fashion is one of the most underrated and misunderstood forms of self-care. It can build self-confidence and self-esteem—or, when neglected, it can make you feel unseen and invisible. I challenge you to pay yourself the care and attention you deserve.
Get up. Dress up. Show up. Meet each day like you matter—because you do.

PS Above are a few recent moments when my style aligned with my vision. Not super flashy but authentically me.Things I love: denim shorts, heels I can walk in, alo sweats, bold baseball caps, slip dresses, CELINE sunnies (well everything CELINE if I’m being honest), and a whole lot of black. 🖤
PPS What are the things you wear and love?
Trench Coats: The Ultimate Staple
Playing Dress Up With Sally Gianna Caruso (@sally_caruso_dance)
Few pieces of clothing have the power to transform an outfit quite like a trench coat. It’s the sartorial equivalent of a perfectly timed wink—effortlessly chic, intriguing, and undeniably timeless. While trends may come and go, the trench coat remains a constant, standing the test of time as a true wardrobe icon.
What makes the trench so special is its seamless blend of form and function. Originally designed for military use—hence its name—this classic piece has evolved into a versatile fashion staple, conquering closets around the world with its ability to balance elegance and practicality. Whether you're casually draping it over your pajamas for a coffee run or cinching it at the waist for a polished, put-together look, the trench coat always delivers.
It’s one of those rare items that can elevate an outfit in an instant. Pair it with a simple T-shirt and jeans, and suddenly, you’ve got main character energy. It brings structure, sophistication, and just the right amount of nonchalance to any ensemble.
With the trench coat currently having a moment, finding one that fits your style and budget has never been easier. Whether you opt for a classic beige in traditional gabardine, a sleek black leather version, or a pop of color in lightweight silk, there’s something for every taste. Consider the length too—while a cropped trench adds a playful edge, a full-length style brings a touch of drama. Both vintage finds and high-street options offer great choices that flatter every body type, age, and personal style.
If you haven’t yet added one to your wardrobe, let this be your sign. The trench coat is more than just an outerwear piece—it’s a fashion legacy, a style hack, and a personal statement, all wrapped in one elegant, belted package. And trust me, once you own one, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Mabel Mora’s Perfect Trench
I spotted this amazing pleated trench on Selena Gomez’s character, Mabel Mora, in Only Murders in the Building (S4, E2) and immediately started Googling. I’m often late to Netflix binge-fests, so I figured it was sold out—but lucky us, it’s still available! The color and silhouette are, of course, classic, but the pleated detail adds so much interest and elegance. So lovely!

Lu’s List : All The Things I Love And Left Behind For Your Consideration
I love shopping, trying things on, and—especially—buying new pieces! But right now, I’m on a spending hiatus. One, because I’m saving for a trip; two, because my wardrobe is already in great shape; and three, because, let’s be honest—our current rate of consumption isn’t sustainable. (Have you seen Buy Now on Netflix? We all need to be more selective and what we buy-Temu much?!)
So, I’m doing my part by pressing pause on new purchases—for now. But just because my credit cards are on a time-out doesn’t mean yours have to be. In lieu of shopping for myself, I’m sharing what I would buy with you. Because let’s face it—you can take a fashion lover out of the mall, but she’s still going to find a way to get her shop on!
For what it’s worth, I only highlight pieces I’d genuinely buy for myself or recommend to my clients. My taste leans toward timeless, versatile pieces that are truly worth the investment. I hope this list of things I love and left behind inspires you. Take what you need, leave what you don’t.

Lu’s List (The April Edition)
The Lennon Satin And Lace Cami by A.L.C. in Red and Bosco
I can never get enough Lace in my life, this tank top is just so pretty and the complimentary color combination is luxurious and unexpected. It would look incredible under faux-fur or a velvet blazer. It’s also on sale.
2. The Red 3D Sequin Midi Dress by Self-Portrait
In my next life, I will have A LOT of parties to attend, I adore dressing-up. But at the moment I have a couple of low-key dinners planned and a plethora of cocktail dresses in my closet that are begging to be worn, so I’ll have to leave this one here for now. (If you need the perfect party dress, try this one for sure!) Sequins are always a good idea and the ruby hue is classic.
3. The Faux Fur Coat Limited Edition in Oyster-White
I’m not fully sure where my obsession with faux fur comes from but I think it’s some combination of my raver-days mixed with the fact that I’m always cold. I just love faux-fur and go into full-on hoarder mode when I see it. This shaggy jacket by Zara is giving chic and stylish vibes. The white hue is on point and perfect to pair with denim or all-black.
4. The Peggy Sweater by Sunday Best in Dark Olive
Sweaters are definitely having a moment, especially cable knit ones. The thing is, even though they are always classic and timeless, they are not always available-good ones anyways… So I feel like it’s a worthy purchase because by the time you decide to jump on board, there might be slim pickings. Love this dark olive hue-flattering on all skin types.
5. The Maelle Suede Fringe Jacket by Nili Lotan in Martora
I’m all about mixing uniform basics with statement investment pieces that will last for years. This jacket is eternally cool and will serve you well. Yes of course the whole nod to western-wear denim thing works here, but I also love the idea of pairing this with soft florals and slacks in similar tones or, worn over all-white when the weather warms up-so lovely I almost want to put it back in my basket.
6. The Turtleneck by The Great in Heather Grey
Basic yes, but versatile, useful, and cozy? Yes. Yes. Yes. This is another one of those items that you mind pass up and wish you had bought later-good turtlenecks can be hard to find. It’s great for layering under cardigans and blazers or could be worn solo with belted denim.
7. Moto Leather Trench Coat by Fleur Du Mal in Black
I realize this edit (Lu’s List: The April Edition) is jacket heavy-I suppose that’s the Canadian in me (always thinking ahead). The thing about having really good jackets is they can serve as outerwear and as your outfit. This trench is stunning! Pair it with pumps or tall boots, bright lips and shades=better than done.
8. The Half-Pipe Cargo Nerdy by Mother Denim in Black
These cuffed and high-waisted pants are made from recycled leather. I love the barrel-leg silhouette and oversized pockets. They seem simultaneously slick and comfy. Cute with a snug T-shirt and sneakers or with a feminine blouse and heels. Also on sale.
9. The Helene Top by Cult Gaia in Black
I love an ‘outfit’ top. (A top so good that it is basically your whole look.) When you have several good ones in your closet, you always have something to wear. Think about this one with hoop earrings and denim for a more casual take, or with bold jewelry and wide-leg trousers for an evening out. It’s linen too so could come in handy on your next warm-weather vacation.
10. The Stiletto Over The Knee Boot by Paris Texas in Black
I lust these boots, they’re basically perfect. The heel is rather high so they’d definitely be more of an uber-to-the-door-of-an-event type shoe, rather than an out-and-about type one, but the silhouette is so elegant and lovely, I had to share. I’d wear them over leggings with an oversized sweater for an evening with friends or with a little black cocktail dress to an event if I was feeling daring. These are classic so will likely serve you for years to come if you take good care of them.
